Most striking feature:

One room b&b in a container. In a former sawmill Mieke and her husband build their dream home (and a b&b). Imagine the old rough, industrial atmosphere mixing perfectly with Belgian design – and some funny details added by Mieke. For me a hotel stay gets an A+ when the details making you smile. And that’s where Mieke comes in. In the closet of the room you’ll find necklaces to rent for a night (afterwards you can also buy them). The breakfast is superb and packed in simple white paper with mint green tape and written over it what it is and where you can combine it with. She also gives you a notebook full of cool Gent addresses. Simple yet beautiful.

About the container. If you’re afraid of heights, are disabled or pregnant, it’s not advisable to stay here. The stairs are quite steep. The b&b rises above Gent (see last picture underneath) so you have to take a lot of stairs to finally end up in that wonderful bed – with a view over Gent. It’s small but you’ll have everything you need in it. A bathroom with shower and toilet, a closet, kitchen, bench and a bed upstairs. The interior is mostly made of wood with a couple of funny details. Oh and another extra: you get a bike with your stay. Perfect to cruise around Gent. Official openingsdate: february 2012.

From 115 euro per night. Check out: www.studiomie.be

That green container on the roof is the room.
