When I started collecting the world’s most beautiful design addresses back in 2010, there was a lot I didn’t know. With a background in Dutch journalism, a little camera of Canon in my pocket and 0 knowledge of publishing books, I started writing the first articles. As friends told their friends, not long after Petite Passport evolved into a community of people who love design and travel. Nowadays we’re with more than 100.000 like-minded people on Instagram. There are more than 1400 addresses on the site. I’ve self-published 11 travel guides and 2 magazines that were sold at COS stores around Europe, Tsutaya Books in Tokyo and Graanmarkt13 in Antwerp, among others.
In March ’24 Design Stays will hit the shelves, a coffee table book sharing the 45 most beautiful hotels in Europe. And meanwhile I also work together with companies who like to use my expertise via talks, custom-made guides, like the limited-edition Amsterdam Guide for Hoxton Hotels, or products such as the City Vases collection I’ve made together with ceramic designer Giulia Cosenza, and curated trips for tourism boards such as Visit Maastricht.
What makes an address special enough to be featured on Petite Passport? There’s an inspiring story behind it, you feel that they created a unique concept with lots of love and creativity and it is aesthetically so appealing that you would want to live there, so to speak.
What makes Petite Passport unique in my eyes is that I’m your personal hotspotter. All the articles with a Tried & Tested stamp, all the posts you see on Instagram and all the addresses in the guides are tested by me personally so I know it’s good enough to recommend. How many open job applications I receive to take over that part: I’ll always visit those new addresses for you in order to recommend only the true gems. And I hope to continue doing that for many years to come!
