MisterDesign opened its doors under the same roof as Garage Pompen & Verlouw. A design store of 2000m2 in Den Bosch where they sell brands such as Vitra, Ligne Roset, and Carl Hansen & Son.
In the 1930s this monumental building was a Ford garage. Cars were made here, it was a showroom and the garage was located where the restaurant is now. MisterDesign had two stores in the center of Den Bosch, but they became too small to show everything. That’s no longer a problem: they’ve created several living rooms separated by curtains, there are a FLOS and a Tom Dixon shop and in the Gift Shop you can buy small designer gifts from brands such as Muuto, HAY or Ferm Living. Ask them to wrap your presents as the wrapping paper has the most beautiful designer chairs on them.
Despite the fact that the monumental building couldn’t be renovated too radically, the owners worked together with Studio 34 South, who is also responsible for the design of Garage Pompen & Verlouw. They turned the place into a jaw-dropping modern space where you still see details of the former function. Such as the tiles on the wall and the ‘loket personeel’ where staff had to report the working times (I suppose). New is the wooden centerpiece which almost looks like a museum for design chairs.
My favorites in the enormous space are the Little Petra Chair from & Tradition, the Rabari 1 rug from Nanimarquina and the pink Maralunga 40 sofa from Cassina. And in my eyes, the Rietveld Zig Zag chair remains one of the most beautiful designs ever made. Simplistic in appearance, but oh so hard to make. You can’t stop looking at it.
