When you get out of the car at Le Barn, their love of animals is immediately apparent. The stables are the first thing you see, the fields are full of horses, and Clarke, the resident dog, greets you kindly at the entrance. Your own dog also is more than welcome.
The grounds are surrounded by a nature park where you can walk, cycle or go horse-riding for hours. Le Barn was founded by William Kriegel, entrepreneur and founder of the La Cense method that helps riders become real horse whisperers, and Edouard Dahn, partner at the Spanish hotel group Marugal, which also includes Totem in Madrid and Gecko Beach on Formentera. They wanted to create a place where families can find calm relaxation time and where you simply live according to the rhythms of nature.
For the interior they commissioned Be-Poles design studio, known for the NoMad Hotels in the United States, Le Pigalle in Paris, and Roches Rouges on the Côte d’Azur. You can expect to see botanical art on the wall, a lean-to greenhouse with a restaurant furnished with Thonet chairs and lots of plants, and in the room a sturdy curtain made of Barbour fabric. It’s like camping, but in luxury hotel style. Here we all forget about our phones and start playing pétanque or a board game, we light a campfire in the evening and tell each other ghost stories, and we unwind with a good book in one of the folding Zip Dee chairs on our terrace.
Children can have all kinds of adventures here: on horseback, cycling in circles or trying to hit a bull’s eye with a bow and arrow. And the adults first sweat out their stress in the sauna, then relax in the hot jacuzzis, with a view of the great outdoors.
