Usually I recommend only restaurants, hotels and shops with a beautiful design, but today I’m gonna recommend an event in Rotterdam. This Saturday the city organizes 12 (bike) tours to see the sustainable build houses of creatives in Rotterdam. Gluren bij de Buren is hard to translate but maybe ‘Peek inside the houses of the neighbours’ explains it best. Yesterday I already got a tour of three houses and I love to show you some pictures so you have an idea what’s it all about. Of course I already know that Rotterdam is the architect capital of the Netherlands, but apparently self-building projects are big too. Remember the Black Pearl? This fantastic blue rooftop designed by the architects (MVRDV) of de Markthal among other inspiring projects? Or this long narrow apartment close to the happening Witte de Withstraat? This year the festival focusses on sustainable houses and you can listen to their solutions on solar panels, energy, materials used during construction etc. Gluren bij de Duurzame Buren is an inspiring event for people who love design, sustainability and architecture and love to see Rotterdam on an alternative way too!
