Whether you’re heading towards the chic Cotswolds to check in at Cowley Manor Experimental, or planning a culinary and art-filled escape to Somerset and its surroundings: navigating those narrow, winding country lanes is a true adventure. In this article, we’re sharing the loveliest addresses across the United Kingdom, packed with more than enough inspiration to book your next getaway right away.
Five Acre Barn in Suffolk is a beautiful bed and breakfast surrounded by greenery. A wonderful place to unwind and breathe in the fresh sea air. The coast is just a stone’s throw away, and it’s only 2.5 hours from London.
Always dreamed of staying in a black wooden, Scandinavian-designed holiday home? Then Blackwood in Norfolk is a fantastic option. It’s also located close to the beach.
Locke offers affordable, design-driven hotels all across England and beyond. In Manchester, Whitworth Locke comes highly recommended. While you’re in town, make sure to grab lunch at Pollen Bakery. Unitom has just opened a brand-new kiosk, but their original location is also well worth a visit if you love independent magazines. Onsite.Records is set to open soon, combining a café and a record shop under one roof. Oh, and be sure to reserve a table at Erst, which was recently named one of the best restaurants in the UK.
Located just outside Manchester in a former coffee warehouse, you’ll find the restaurant Where the Light Gets In. Do make sure to book well in advance. And if you happen to find yourself in Stockport, take a moment to stop by Café Convene, featuring a beautiful burgundy storefront.
Nestled between Manchester and York lies the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, the largest sculpture park in all of Europe.
Objects of Use is a beautifully curated, modern-day hardware store in Oxford.
In Oxfordshire, art enthusiasts gather for a visit to Albion Barn & Fields – an inspiring exhibition space and sculpture park showcasing works by James Turrell, Nick Cave, and Constantin Brâncuși, among others.
There is also plenty to discover in Somerset. Go stay, or enjoy some shopping at Caro. Take your time to explore the gardens and exhibitions at Hauser & Wirth, enjoy a magnificent meal at Osip, or visit the farm at Higher Farm. Holm is another fantastic address: delicious dining downstairs, and lovely rooms to sleep in upstairs. And for excellent Italian food, head over to Da Costa.
In Bath, Landrace features a wonderful bakery and café on the ground floor, and a restaurant upstairs.
While Stones Bakery in Falmouth is already a favorite, their warehouse setting in Penryn is absolutely brilliant. Just like Neighbourhood, which is a must-visit if you love wine.
The beaches of Cornwall are almost Caribbean-like. Don’t miss Kynance Cove and Porthcurno Beach.
Also in Cornwall: Four Boys, a casual restaurant boasting lovely views over the estuary in Rock.
Artist Residence has several inspiring locations across the country, including Oxfordshire, Bristol (read my full review here), Cornwall, and Brighton.
In Fowey, it’s well worth stopping by seafood restaurant North Street Kitchen. And while you’re there, book a stay at Orchard Cottage (which comfortably sleeps up to eight guests). It’s a beautifully soft-hued, minimalist holiday home.
Saltmoore is nestled along the coast in the North York Moors National Park. Expect a two-Michelin-starred restaurant, a chic boutique hotel, and a serene wellness space. This is a place to truly slow down and unwind.
If you love vintage finds, take the drive from Bristol towards Wales and make a stop at Baileys Home.
Located in East Sussex, yet only about two and a half hours from London by train and car, you’ll find the design cabins of Architects Holiday. You can choose the Yogi’s Cabin, for instance, which features a private yoga studio, an outdoor yoga platform, and a wonderfully zen interior. But they also offer a cabin designed specifically for those who love swimming, with the Musician’s Cabin and Chef’s Cabin set to follow soon.
