This past week I was in Santorini because I’m creating a guide for a Greek hotel covering both Crete and Santorini. In this article I’m going to share the 3 most beautiful places I visited there with you, plus I checked out the vintage fair Collectors Rdam, and of course, I have much more to share. Let’s go!
I didn’t have particularly high expectations for Santorini – it’s known as a honeymoon island, and I imagined it would be too polished, touristy, and overpriced. That actually makes it more fun for me to go and see whether there are places that do fit with Petite Passport. And there were plenty. I’ll share them all with you soon (and you can already do find them on the Crete and Santorini Highlight on Instagram where I’ve shared all finds with members), but here’s a little preview.
Neema Maison Santorini is the hotel I’m creating the guide for – a lovely, small-scale, adults-only boutique hotel that just opened its doors in September. It’s located in Finikia, a very small and picturesque village that isn’t touristy but is close to Oia. Highly recommended!
If you visit in August when temperatures soar, you might skip it, but I walked from Imerovigli to Fira (about 30 minutes). Along the way, you’ll find the charming Pink Sophia Maria, a deli-style café serving the island’s best lemonade, breakfast and brunch dishes, and selling beautiful plates.
The most beautiful photo I took was at Miltos Greek Table in Oia, opened last June. The view is absolutely phenomenal – though, honestly, that’s true almost everywhere on the island. Then you really understand Santorini’s appeal: it’s a true wonder of the world to see such vast views while standing so high up. You can’t help but feel on top of the world.
This weekend saw the second edition of Collectors R’dam, a vintage design fair in Rotterdam’s harbor area. The venue, an old shipyard hall, is impressive – and so are the interior pieces. From a travertine lamp at Atelier UMA to ceramics at Flinke Vintage and quirky design at Paulette in ’t Stad.
In Rotterdam, I love going to Rotonde when there’s something to celebrate. My boyfriend got a new job, so on Saturday we enjoyed a four-course dinner at this vegetarian restaurant, which recently received another Green Michelin Star. One of the dishes, kohlrabi with strawberries, was fantastic!
Heading to Stockholm soon? Be sure to visit the Moderna Museet, where since last weekend you can see (and try!) the Stockholm Slides by Carsten Höller. They’ll be there for at least five years, so you have plenty of time.
Iebele van der Meulen, who worked for years at the Dutch magazine LINDA., has independently created a magazine about Erwin Olaf. The pre-order is now open, with shipping in November.
I’m also a big fan of the Bourse de Commerce in Paris, where the exhibition Minimal opened last Wednesday. You can visit it until January 19.
For me, lots of computer work: I’ll be writing thirty articles for the Greek Island Guide. But this weekend, I’ll be on the road again. In spring, I had dinner at Soixante in Antwerp, and the oysters they served came from Oesterij. They’re hosting an oyster festival in Zeeland on Saturday, so I’m going there. Also, Dutch Design Week starts this coming weekend, so I’ll be heading there on Sunday.
