This was the week we finally launched the new homepage along with a free membership tier. I also went to Amsterdam for the opening of a new interior store and to Utrecht to see a new hotel. And of course, there are many more things to share: from a cool design gift to a peek inside a new Amsterdam art space.
I can’t describe how happy I am with the new homepage: not only visually, with much more space, but also because it gives me the opportunity to share more with you. Like this new feature, a destination of the week and the most popular destinations of the month.
We also wanted to give non-members a taste of what the membership is all about. You can now subscribe via a Boarding Pass membership, which gives access to five free articles per month. Of course, that’s nothing compared to the 2,000 hotspots and journals, the maps, the Best Friends List, and the exclusive newsletter paying members get, but it does give you an idea.
On Tuesday, I went to Amsterdam to visit the brand-new Soho Home Studio inside Soho House. Here you can explore and buy the Soho Home collection, and even get interior advice. Online they also have a wide range of art pieces, and they ship throughout Europe – making it an easy way to bring something new into your home.
The idea was to do a round of new places with my new camera, but the rain came down so heavily that I decided to take shelter at the Stedelijk. It’s interesting to see how museums worldwide collaborate with hospitality entrepreneurs to give their cafés and restaurants a local touch. At Stedelijk, they work with the women behind Oficina for their café Fonda, and with the founder of Entrepot and Metro for the all-day restaurant Sandberg on the ground floor.
Stedelijk now presents the work of Karel Martens, one of the Netherlands’ most influential post-war graphic designers. In the museum shop, but also in places such as Present & Correct in London, Marjolein Delhaas in Rotterdam, and Yvon Lambert in Paris, you can find his 2026 Calendar for €34.95 – a perfect holiday gift!
On Thursday, I went to Utrecht for a press viewing of a hotel, but I wasn’t that enthusiastic unfortunately. So instead of recommending it, I’d rather highlight Bakkerij Kameel, which opened this summer. It’s a small artisanal bakery where the cinnamom bun is the bestseller. Utrecht is such a beautiful city, and I’ll be back soon to do a full round.

And if you’re in Philadelphia, don’t miss the new Calder Gardens if you’re a fan of Alexander Calder.
And today it’s Sunday, and I’m writing this article from a dark-brown Hay couch in an Airbnb apartment in Amsterdam, where I’ve just arrived for a weeklong yoga teacher training. It’s near Westerpark, so I checked out Villa – a new contemporary private art museum. Nobody knows about it yet, so you’ll likely have the space to yourself.
What’s on our radar this week? In Brussels, Curated is taking place from September 26–28 at Mix Brussels. If you love Big Art, head to Het Slotervaart, also from September 26–28. I won’t be travelling much this week, but I will walk throughout Amsterdam every day so I might see one or two new spots worth recommending.
