AFFORDABLE CITY STAYS

With prices rising everywhere, travel and hotel stays are no exception. But what if you still want a getaway without paying 200 euros (or more) per night? There are definitely options. Consider visiting a lesser-known city, avoid major event dates, and explore neighborhoods slightly off the beaten path. Here, I’ve rounded up my favorite design stays under 125 euros per night.

Hotel Pilar, Antwerp – 125 euros

Hotel Pilar is about to undergo renovation, so prices might change soon — but for now, it’s still an affordable stay. Perfectly located in the vibrant Zuid district, right across from KMSKA, it offers a spacious terrace and a great restaurant.

Hotel zum Hirschen, Salzburg – 110 euros

Where cycling meets design. This family-run hotel has a fresh, modern look with a strong focus on wellbeing. Yoga classes, fitness facilities, and a secure spot for your bike – Hotel zum Hirschen is perfectly located between two major cycling routes.

Eden Locke, Edinburgh – 115 euros

The pastel green lobby bar of Eden Locke is a visual treat. Each room comes with a kitchenette, making it ideal for short and longer stays. Plus, there’s a co-working space and dogs are welcome.

Morgan & Mees, Rotterdam – 120 euros

A chic boutique hotel just around the corner from Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen – ideal for art lovers. The rooms at Morgan & Mees are beautifully designed by Anne Claus, and there’s a lovely restaurant and buzzing bar onsite.

Locke at East Side, Berlin – 100 euros

Locke Hotels always manage to keep prices accessible. Located by the Berlin Wall and the Spree River, Locke at East Side is slightly removed from the trendiest neighborhoods — but with a bike or Uber, you’re there in no time.

La Réleve, Marseille – 105 euros

La Réleve is a small hotel perched above one of Marseille’s most iconic bars. Think: long terrace sessions followed by colorful rooms to sleep off your evening. Only four minutes away from concept store Sessun Alma.

Mix, Brussels – 120 euros

Mix Brussels is located on the edge of Brussels in a vast complex combining hotel rooms, restaurants, co-working spaces, and wellbeing facilities. If “wellbeing” sparks your interest, you’ll want to stay more than one night: spa, two pools, boxing, yoga, and an impressive schedule of classes.

Apollo Palm Hotel, Athens – 100 euros

The Apollo Palm Hotel is a glamorous spot in Psyrri where yellow accents, mirrors, plants, and modernist architecture set the tone. I wasn’t a fan of the Apollo Suite due to the mirror overload — though the Acropolis view was outstanding. I’d recommend the Superior Double instead. Sometimes the smaller, more affordable rooms are the better choice. Don’t miss the rooftop view!

Warszauer, Krakow – 100 euros

A luxury suite hotel in Krakow’s historic Jewish Quarter, surrounded by plenty of great restaurants and bars. The Warszauer features spacious rooms and suites, while the breakfast room is a true gem: a long communal table, surrounded by art, where à la carte breakfast is served each morning.

Yust, Antwerp – 100 euros

Set in the lively Groenkwartier neighborhood, Yust offers rental bikes to easily reach the city center. I booked a loft myself, but you can also stay in the hostel section. Bonus: there’s a good restaurant onsite.
