LE MOULIN DE LOURMARIN

This Summer Le Moulin opened its doors in Lourmarin. A hotel and restaurant by the same owners as Les Roches Rouges.

Most beautiful village of France

Lourmarin is one of France’s most beautiful villages. Expect narrow streets, houses covered with ivy, some lovely shops, church bells in the background, locals on a terrace with a glass of Pastis or white wine and even a real castle. It’s cinematic, picture-perfect and utterly French.

In a former mill

Le Moulin is located in the heart of the village and, as the name suggests, once was a mill. With respect for the history of the building they transformed it into a unique hotel. They worked together with the women behind J.A.U.N.E architects (also known for this hotel in Mexico) who were inspired by the region for the interior. This translates into warm colors in the interior, the use of sisal on the floors and walls and beautiful locally-made ceramics and art (check out the work of artist Caroline Beauzon) throughout the building.

Scent

After checking in they lead me to one of their Superior Rooms. The first thing you’ll notice is a calm and serene interior and the smell. You won’t find Aesop or Le Labo in the bathroom, as they collaborated with Diptyque. After washing your hands you put the soap in a carefully selected ceramic bowl. You’ll notice more ceramics in the room, but also art and a funny notebook. Next to the bed two hatches open up to a picturesque view of the village.

Restaurant

The ground floor is the heart of the hotel with a cafe, terrace, deli and restaurant with patio. All designed with a sense of Provence style circa 2021. In the restaurant they serve classic dishes from Le Provence: think of vegetables, fish and meat. Try the Olive Oil Fougasse, courgettes of Lourmarin carpaccio, monkfish bourride and the raspberry tart for a taste of the region.

Experiences

The hotel also serves travelers who want more than just a hotel visit. Every day of the week they organize an activity that allows you to get to know the region in a different way. That can be a simple Pilates or yoga lesson, but also a visit to an open air cinema, a truffle hunt or an evening walk along the starry sky.
