HOTEL JULIEN ANTWERP

One of the most serene places to stay in Antwerp is Hotel Julien, designed by Vincent Van Duysen. Its central location makes it an ideal place to explore the city.

Historic city center

Hotel Julien opened its doors in 2004 which was also the year I visited the hotel for the first time. As a journalism student I was commissioned to write a report for a Dutch website. At the time, the hotel consisted of one building, but the same relaxing atmosphere has been preserved all these years. And that’s quite unique for Hotel Julien with its location directly in the happening historic city center.

Vincent Van Duysen

The Belgian architect Vincent Van Duysen is responsible for the interior, and later also worked with owner Mouche Van Hool on August. He has ensured to let the building speak for itself and managed to achieve the desired serene atmosphere through his skilled view of minimal additions of woodwork and furniture. The living room invites you to an apero after a day in the city, while the many books and comfortable armchairs in the building invite you to take a read. Don’tĀ forget to check out the art throughout the hotel: a collaboration with Gallery 51.

Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekathedraal

In the years the hotel has been open, the owner has bought the building next door. That means you can now also have breakfast there and they have a spa in the basement. If you take the elevator to the top floor, you will enter the rooftop with a view over the Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekathedraal. The rooms are all decorated in calm colors, have ingenious built-in wardrobes or benches and have Aesop products in the Carrera marble bathroom.
