If you like to see more than just the city center of Porto, go to Foz. Close to the beach and to Serralves, the Museum of Modern Art. Stay at Duas Portas, a new bed and breakfast with a view over the Douro.
The bus from Porto stops in front of Duas Portas, an old townhouse in Foz which is renovated recently in a small hotel with only six rooms. After checking-in I’ve looked around the property and I saw a lot of green, bikes in the hall way (super handy as you can take them to see the area and cycle along the river until you’ve reached the beach) and a breakfast area. There are some outdoor spaces too, but it was raining quite heavily during my visit so I couldn’t take any pictures there.
The rooms are super minimalistic and spacious. Some rooms face the river (recommendable) while others face the garden. The green floors are beautiful just like the tiles in the bathroom. There are lots of J77 chairs by Hay to be seen throughout the hotel and together with the check-in desk and the art work you’re like: yes! Unfortunately design wise I didn’t get the leather chairs in the rooms and the lights next to the beds – as if they kept that from the former owner.
Duas Portas is recommendable for people who love to explore Foz and its surroundings. Active people who love to bike, run or go surfing. And as the Serralves Museum is close by (five euros with a taxi) it’s also nice for art addicts. Next door to Duas Portas you’ll find a good vegetarian restaurant.
