RESTAURANT
seasonal food in a glasshouse

In Het Industriegebouw in Rotterdam you’ll find some amazing spots. I’ve already told you about Groos, the concept store where they sell design and art made by Rotterdam designers only, and By Jarmusch is the latest opening.
The all-day breakfast diner is named after Jim Jarmusch, an American film director, who is known for his short-film project called Coffee & Cigarettes. That was the inspiration for By Jarmusch. Another project of Tjeerd Hendriks, who is also behind Groos, and Ruben Venema of Biergarten.
Based on the American diner the interior of the restaurant also serves as a tribute to Hugh Maaskant. The architect of Het Industriegebouw and one of the city’s most famous architects. Known for the design of buildings such as Het Groothandelsgebouw and the Euromast. See some of the references in the lamps above the bar and the sitting booths.
The menu is all about all-day breakfast. Some of the recommendations are the acai bowl, one of the pancakes or the classic egg breakfast. As I visited By Jarmusch around tea time I’ve tried the brownie with white chocolate. Delicious. Of course coffee plays an important role in the restaurant too – see the wall mural of Bier & Brood referring to the endless coffee refill culture and the big white coffee mugs you can find all over the place. As Hendriks is a big promotor of Rotterdam the coffee is of course made by Rotterdam coffee roasters Man met Bril.
